Alpine skiing: ankle fracture: ski superstar Marcel Hirscher six weeks in plaster cast

Marcel Hirscher from Austria broke an ankle one and a half months before the start of the Olympic winter and will definitely miss the World Cup season opener at the end of October.

The six-time overall World Cup winner and six-time World Champion suffered the injury on Thursday morning during slalom training on the Mölltal glacier in Carinthia.Hirscher had set up a goal bar and had fallen.

Hirscher (28) was flown by helicopter to the university hospital in Salzburg.According to the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV), the fracture of the left outer ankle does not require surgical treatment, but Hirscher will have to wear a cast for six weeks.The first World Cup races will take place on 29.October (giant slalom in Sölden/Austria) and on 12.November (Slalom in Levi/Finland).
