From Attila Revada (German Fight News)
I have to say first of all that I am a big Gennady-Golovkin fan and I have seldom been (and still am!) so taken with a boxer as I am with the Kazakhs. For me, he is currently the greatest fighter of our time, even before Floyd Mayweather. However, boxing is sometimes just mathematics. This means that if the numbers are not correct, the calculation cannot work out.And the number I mean is the age of Golovkin, and I don’t doubt his actual date of birth, but think that the ravages of time have also gnawed at the 35-year-old “Triple G”.
In his last fight against Daniel Jacobs, I saw for the first time slight weaknesses in him, nothing serious, only minimal nuances, but which can make up half of the world in a top duel between the two best middleweight athletes. And the second-best man in the weight category on paper is the Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez, who is slowly entering his best age for boxers and will definitely be the toughest opponent for Golovkin. It is well known that the two highly decorated athletes will meet in Las Vegas next night from Saturday to Sunday in German time.
A few years ago, Alvarez was called the boxing prodigy. He was not yet the complete fighter he is becoming, but for his age already enormously far and an excellent technician with a mad footwork. He certainly has a good bang in his fists too, but he won’t knock out a Golovkin with that.beat.GGG “can simply take too much for that.I think he’s going to box him out classically and if the judges have not planned anything crazy this evening, it will be the first big triumph for Alvarez.I am also sure that he will then establish a new era and dominate his weight class for a long time to come.
I know that some people are shaking their heads in disbelief because Golovkin is considered invincible.I did the same up to his fight against Jacobs.Golovkin certainly deserved to win against the American, but only because Jacobs didn’t dare to do much at the beginning of the duel. But in the last three to four laps he was able to dominate in some places and Golovkin is still happy that in 1988, to protect the health of the boxers, World Cup matches were shortened from 15 to 12 laps. Two more laps and Jacobs would have defeated Golovkin.
There are those who say today that Canelo lost clearly to Floyd Mayweather in 2013, so he has no chance next Saturday.Yeah, that’s right, but how old was he back then?At that time, at 23, he was not yet a full-fledged pilot, but four years ago he was still lacking in maturity for such a great battle.A year ago, I would have said that Alvarez still needs two more years to fight Golovkin, an assessment that has been in evidence since Jacobs vs.Golovkin changed.
But back to mathematics.Normally, when you’re competing in boxing, if two fighters of similar strength are facing each other, you can’t predict much in advance, I would say. There are too many contingencies. But I’m still counting together: Golovkin has the better punch, sorry, the (!) punch in the weight class at all and taker qualities like a buffalo. But he won’t seriously hit Canelo, because he is too fast and technically the better boxer.Canelo will score better results next Saturday and will be more experienced than in 2013 against Mayweather. And if my gut feeling doesn’t let me down, he will dethrone Golovkin and put large parts of the boxing world in shock.
Incidentally, this is the real battle of the year.Unfortunately, there is not as much talk about it in this country as there is about McGregor vs.Mayweather.Too bad!Especially in Germany I miss a little more seriousness. The Americans have the top match Alvarez vs.Golovkin’s all over the place and they’re in mega fight fever, like me.I am also looking forward to seeing this mega fight on DAZN on Saturday with friends to Superior FC in Ludwigshafen.
