Olympia 2018: Bach regrets Olympic Games for NHL stars

IOC President Thomas Bach has regretted the Olympic Games for the stars from the NHL.The top players from the USA and Canada will definitely not be able to compete at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang (9th place).till 25.February) will take place.

“I find it a pity that the NHL doesn’t allow players to play in Pyeongchang. For most people, the Olympic Games are the culmination of their careers,”said Bach at the end of the IOC summit in Lima, Peru.

Rene Fasel, president of the World Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), also confirmed in Lima that the negotiations with the NHL had failed:”The train has left”, the Swiss told the SID.

The NHL had already declared in April after tough negotiations that there would be no break for the Olympic Games in the 2017/18 season. All further talks were unsuccessful. Most club owners had spoken out against participating in South Korea, and many players wanted to fight for Olympic medals. From 1998 to 2014, the best league in the world had sent its pros to winter games.
