NBA: Silver comments on the Trump issue

Commissioner Adam Silver has now also intervened in the dispute between US President Donald Trump, the Warriors and some NBA players. The NBPA players’ union also issued a statement.

“I was in favour of the Warriors visiting the White House – because I thought this would have been a good and valuable opportunity to talk directly to the President and express different views.I am disappointed that this is not happening.More importantly, however, it is important to emphasize that I am proud of our players, who play an active role in society and address important things in public”, said a statement by Silvers.

In doing so, he responded that the Warriors around Stephen Curry would not accept Trumps’ invitation to the White House, after which Trump invited Stephen Curry via Twitter.LeBron James joined in and twittered towards Trump:”Du Penner.Stephen Curry already said he’s not coming. So there’s no invitation.Coming to the White House was a great honor until you showed up.”

The NBPA players’ union has also published a statement on the subject. It states:”The players’ union defends its members who exercise freedom of speech and expression against those who try to suppress it.The act of exercising freedom of expression – and not the contempt for it – is what makes America great.”

The latter statement also alludes to the fact that some players – the NFL was the forerunner in this respect – refuse to join in the singing of the national anthem and instead kneel down.Such players had sharply insulted Trump.
