“I just want to support my teammates.I’ve never been anyone who explained what’s right or wrong. But I believe in bringing people together and in respect, love and trust. These are the values that my parents taught me.Afterwards I try to live every day,”Brady continues.

In the last few days, Trump had repeatedly asked football fans to boycott games via Twitter as long as the protests of the pros continue during the American national anthem. The club owners had been asked by Trump to crack down on the protesting players and fire or suspend them.

On Sunday evening, after his New England patriots’ victory over Houston Texans (36:33) Brady, who is said to have a certain closeness to Trump, still held back with comments. 17 of his teammates had kneeled down while playing the anthem, Brady himself stood with his arms hung under his arms in a row with other players. The fans booed the kneeling players.

“Everyone has the right to do what he wants,”Brady said about the expressions of displeasure of the Patriots’ followers,”If you disagree with something, it’s okay, you say that. This is part of our democracy, as long as it is done in a respectful and peaceful manner.”

Previously, numerous sports stars, including basketball icon Michael Jordan and Steve Kerr, coach of NBA champion Golden State Warriors, had already clearly positioned themselves against Trump’s statements. In the NFL, too, numerous officials took a stand against the president.
