Olympia 2018: USA leaves no doubt about Olympic start

Despite the North Korean crisis, the US team has decided not to start at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea (9th place).till 25.The U. S. will be driving,”said President Scott Blackmun of the United States National Olympic Committee on Monday in Park City.

According to Blackmun, the games are “no different from previous games”.

Even if “the unthinkable” were to occur and the provocations between US President Donald Trump and the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un were to lead to a direct conflict, this would not be a matter for the USOC, but for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the governments. In addition, no athlete has come to him for safety reasons, the top official explained further.

Last week, concerns had been expressed by France’s Ministry of Sport and the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) about sending their winter sportsmen to Pyeongchang, just 80 km from the North Korean border. Some German stars, above all ski racer Felix Neureuther and seven times biathlon world champion Laura Dahlmeier, had also voiced their concerns and thought aloud about abandoning the start if the conflict should escalate further.
