Handball: Göppingen dismisses coach Andersson

FA Göppingen broke up with coach Magnus Andersson after only five games. The reigning EHF cup winner responded to the false start with 4:6 points.

Göppingen had finished the past season in tenth place, but a year earlier the team had finished sixth. The club announced that the recent downswing “continued the negative sporting trend that had already begun last season”.

The Swede Andersson had come to Göppingen in 2014 and led the team to win the EHF Cup in 2016 and 2017.”Magnus Andersson was highly professional at all times and left a lasting impression as a human being,”said Peter Kühnle, deputy manager of the club.

Andersson was most recently defeated by the weak performances in the home games (27-27 against Lemgo and 21-23 against Stuttgart). There have been several discussions in the past few days, during which the current sporting situation has been “thoroughly analyzed”, it was further stated. On Tuesday, the club therefore decided to split up.Until a new coaching assignment is made, the current sports director Christian Schöne will be in charge of the units.
