MLB: Detroit Tigers get son of Pedro Martinez

The Detroit Tigers have engaged Pedro Martinez Jr., the son of Hall-of-Fame-Pitcher Pedro Martinez.The 17-year-old signed a minor league contract as part of the international signing period.

ESPN Deportes reports that Martinez receives a signing bonus of $750,000.In addition, the organisation is responsible for any school fees.The commitment was announced at a press conference in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.The Martinez family and Tom Moore, Director of International Operations for the Tigers, were present.

“A dream come true.I wanted to become a professional and expand Martinez Dynasty.Being a part of this family is not pressure, but motivation for me.Now I am concentrating on my career and trying to make a name for myself,”Martinez said.In addition to his famous father, his uncles Ramon and Jesus Martinez also played baseball.All three were pitcher, Martinez Jr.is Third Baseman.

“Obviously, the boy has physical talent, a great work ethic and a high level of education.And he is also the son of the great Pedro Martinez,”Moore described his commitment.

Martinez Jr.Martinez will first attend the Detroit Baseball Academy in the Dominican Republic, where he will attend the Detroit Baseball Academy.And after graduating from high school in 2018, he’ll focus on baseball.
