The Los Angeles Dodgers will have to face the playoffs without Adrian Gonzalez.The team announced on Wednesday that the First Baseman will not play this year due to a back injury.
As Manager Dave Roberts told reporters, Gonzalez, who suffers from intervertebral disc degeneration, will not run into any of the four regular season games or the postseason.The decision came one day after Gonzalez had beaten a 9-2 home run against the San Diego Padres.
“I know he will be playing next year and I expect him to play a season that is typical of Adrian Gonzalez,”said Roberts.
In Gonzalez’ absence, Rookie Cody Bellinger played mainly at the first base and shone with the racquet.He set a new national league rookie record with 39 home runs – second place in the NL this year.
Gonzalez played only 71 times this season and beat. 242 with three home runs and 30 RBI.His contract runs until the end of 2018 and he will earn 21.5 million dollars this season.
