NBA: Media: Westbrook signs record contract

Russell Westbrook has apparently extended his liaison with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Point Guard is said to have signed a five-year contract up to the 2022/23 season and will receive the highest salary ever guaranteed.

ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski reports. The contract is valid from the 2018/19 season and will bring the MVP 205 million dollars over the past season. In addition to the forthcoming season, Westbrook will also be collecting $233 million over six years – the biggest contract in NBA history.

According to ESPN, the deal was closed on Friday afternoon and included a player option last year. The extension would be a strong signal in favour of a franchise, which should be more than happy about the deal due to the initial contractual situation of the new Big Three around Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony (both could become free agents in the summer).

Only a few weeks ago Westbrook signed a new deal with supplier Air Jordan. It is to be the face of the brand until 2027.The current MVP is currently struggling for a quick comeback after his knee injury.
