The Board of Governors of the League has announced the change in the draft lottery.The probability of the worst teams on the first pick has been reduced.From the draft of 2019, the three worst teams will now have the same chance of being voted first.
According to the old system, the team with the worst record could slip to fourth place at most, now it can only get the fifth pick.
“The draft lottery reform is an important step in our efforts to improve the quality of the games,” said Byron Spruell, President of League Operations.”These changes were necessary to give our teams more incentives to compete.
The new system ensures that the three teams with the worst record have an equal 14 percent chance of winning the lottery.According to the old model, the probabilities were staggered.The worst team had a 25 per cent chance, the second worst team had a 19.9 per cent chance and the third worst team had a 15.6 per cent chance on the first pick.
At the lottery the first four picks are drawn, from position five on the teams are assigned in reverse order to the picks.
