MLB: Giants legend Cain ends his career

Pitcher Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants said goodbye to the baseball stage on Saturday with the last start of his career.The three-time World Champion will end his career after the season – and was celebrated by the fans.

For the last time Cain stepped on the Mound against the San Diego Padres – and with five innings without an opponent’s run, he delivered another strong performance.After that, he went on the day before his 33rd birthday.Birthday in the Dugout.Accompanied by standing ovations of over 40,000 fans.But he could barely hide his emotions.

“It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster ride,”said Cain.”The first innings were pure adrenaline, the last three innings have driven me and the fans once again.”

Cain began his career 13 years ago with the Giants, his last contract for six years and $127.5 million expires after this season.In recent years, the right-hander had been plagued by injuries again and again, and on Wednesday he had finally announced his career end.He could not imagine pitching in another team’s jersey.

Cain was voted three times All-Star, won the 2010,2012 and 2014 World Series, and in 2012, he pitched the only perfect game in San Francisco Giants history.His postseason performance in 2010 will remain unforgettable: he did not give up an earned run of 21 1/3 innings and played a decisive role in the team’s first championship in San Francisco.In eight starts in the postseason he gets to an ERA of 2.10.2014 he missed the playoffs due to an elbow injury.

“It means everything to me.Really.That I only wore this one jersey is special.I’ve always wanted to achieve that.I’ll always be a giant and no one else.I don’t want to be anybody else,”he said after the match.In his career (3.68 ERA) he had a total of 342 starts
