Basketball: Schröder on arrest:”Everybody makes mistakes”

Dennis Schröder has publicly praised recovery four days after his arrest for assault.”We are all human beings.Everyone makes mistakes,”the Atlanta Hawks playmaker told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

He tries to “learn from it and earn the trust of my team-mates”, the 24-year-old said in his first statement since the incident.

General Manager Travis Schlenk said he was “disappointed that someone is putting himself in such a position.Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer presented himself in front of his Point Guard:”I think it’s an opportunity for him to learn.It will continue to grow.He has all the facilities to become a leader of our team.”

On Sunday, Schröder also took the first sporting step to make amends: In the 90:96 defeat of the Hawks in the pre-season match at ex-Champion Miami Heat, the Braunschweig player with twelve points in 21 minutes was the top scorer of his team.

Schröder, whose new four-year contract for a total of 70 million dollars is due to expire in the coming season, was arrested early on Thursday morning in his home town of Brookhaven outside Atlanta and later released on bail.

ESPN reported that the incident occurred in the early morning hours in a shisha bar.According to the police report, the clashes went out of Schröder’s hands, he is said to have pushed the victim.Schröder and three companions are said to have beaten and kicked the victim.A surveillance camera filmed the incident, the video is not to be made public because of ongoing investigations.

Playmakers are not only threatened with consequences under civil law.Schröder can also impose a fine on the NBA.A fine is conceivable, including a freeze.The Atlanta Hawks meet for the season opener on 18.October on the Dallas Mavericks with Dirk Nowitzki.Schröder could miss the German duel because of the incident.
