Ice Hockey: CHL: Mannheim in last sixteen – Wolfsburg bangt

Adler Mannheim has qualified as the second German representative for the next round of the Champions League.On the penultimate round of the next to last matchday, the Mannheim team won 6-2 (1-0,2-2,3-0) in Esbjerg Energy’s still-pointless Danes, making them the front runners in Group D.

Meanwhile, Master Red Bull Munich missed the early group victory.In the duel of the teams already qualified for the last sixteen, the Munich team lost 2-3 (0-1,2-2,0-0) against Brynäs IF and dropped back to second place behind the Swedes.

The Grizzlys Wolfsburg lost the important Group A rival duel against Red Bull Salzburg 4:5 (2:3,2:2,0:0) and fell to third place with a further six points behind the Austrians on equal points.The front runner Tappara Tampere (12) will not play until Wednesday against HC Banska Bystrica/Slovakia (3).

Before their fourth season, the Champions Hockey League (CHL) has been cut back, with only 32 teams taking part instead of the previous 48.The first two of each group qualify for the play-offs.The last group match day will be on 10/11.October.
