Alpine Skiing: Alpine Skiing: FIS examines Vonn application for men’s ski start

Lindsey Vonn has come a small step closer to her goal of competing in a men’s World Cup downhill race.At a meeting of its executive members in Zurich on Tuesday, the FIS decided to at least examine a motion of the US-Association (USSA) to this effect.

The motion will be on the agenda at the next meeting in May.

“There is support for the motion among the members of the Executive Committee, but there are many points that still need to be clarified,”said USSA Director Patrick Riml.

Vonn, who has already clinched 77 World Cup victories in the women’s event, wants to compete with the men in the 2018/19 season on a one-off basis. The downhill race was planned for November 2018 in Lake Louise.

The 32-year-old wants to help her sport to attract more attention, but there are also critics in the scene.Andreas Puelacher, head coach of the Austrian alpine skiers, called the idea “a pure PR story”.
