BBL: Bamberg fears financially strong Bavaria:”Hard to keep up with”

Series champion Brose Bamberg fears losing his status as number one to Bayern Munich, the financially strong competitor,”It will be very difficult for us to keep up with Munich’s financial resources,”said Michael Stoschek, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bamberg, to Sport Bild.

“Mr. Hoeneß (FCB President Uli Hoeneß, d.Red.) tells me that he is now committing his dream players and, as with football, only afterwards takes care of their financing,”said Stoschek:”Now it is certainly easier with the background of the big football sponsors than for us, who do not have this financial and organisational background”.

Basically, the relationship between the clubs is characterised by mutual respect, said the 69-year-old:”After all, we have the common interest in making basketball more popular in Germany and, above all, in marketing it better in the media.

We both don’t want to accept that football dominates the sport in Germany so one-sidedly.”

After two games Bamberg has already lost and is tenth, the Bayern are leading the table after two canter victories.

Bamberg is the dominant team in recent years – since 2005, the Franconians have won nine championship titles.Bavaria, on the other hand, only became champion in 2014.
