The New York Yankees won the American League Division Series 3-2 in a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Indians and are now in the ALCS.The rest was provided by the once again dominant bullpen of the Bronx Bombers.
The Yankees, who had equalized the series after losing 0-2 with two home victories, got off to a better start in Game 5.In the third inning, the latter then took a 2-run shot, thus overcoming the American League’s best pitcher of the season, Corey Kluber, twice.
The Indians bite their teeth at Yankees starter CC Sabathia at first, but the left-handed man ran out of breath in the fifth inning. After two runs he was replaced by David Robertson, who closed the door confidently and ordered the field for Closer Aroldis Chapman, who took care of the final six outs and made New York’s success perfect.
But before Chapman finally did, the Yankees did another two runs after an epic At-Bat with Brett Gardner’s RBI single and an Indians error.
The ALCS kicks off on Friday when the Houston Astros receive the Yankees in Texas.
ALDS, game 5: Cleveland Indians – New York Yankees 2:5 BOXSCORE
Both starters didn’t make it through the fifth inning, so the Bullpens had to keep the shops together. Both were prepared and predestined to do so, considering that the Yankees built their pen according to last year’s Indians. And they beat the hosts with their own weapons, so to speak, while the Indians were finally overthrown again, the Yankees around David Robertson and Aroldis Chapman brought it to a successful conclusion.
Joe Girardi gave Sabathia as much room for manoeuvre as possible, but then took him out of the game after the second run in the fifth inning and brought his probably best setup-reliever, David Robertson (2 2/3 IP) very early on.He, in turn, not only ended the immediate threat with runners on the corners, but even managed to get his team through the seventh inning.
The Yankees won this game primarily because of their strong pitching, no question about it.But someone had to provide the necessary run support. He hit two home runs against Corey Kluber and thus secured three RBIs for an early lead that the Yankees could no longer give.He was 3-4 in all.
Jason Kipnis, Jose Ramirez, Edwin Encarnacion and Carlos Santana were at the heart of the Indians’ offense and did not achieve a single hit. They were a total of 0-15 with six strikeouts. With so little production from this part of the batting order it is extremely difficult to win, especially in the postseason.
