Olympia 2018: North Korea to participate in Paralympic Games in South Korea

Despite the intense political tensions on the Korean peninsula, North Korea has signalled its interest in participating in the 2018 Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.South Korea’s Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha confirmed this according to a report by the Yonhap news agency.

The topic will be discussed intensively next week and Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee IPC, is expected in Seoul on Monday.North Korean athletes would need wildcards for their participation, as they did not achieve sporting qualifications.

For the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, only the pair runners Ryom Tae Ok and Kim Ju Sik from the north have been able to secure a place on the grid.
