Hall of Famer Tony La Russa will leave the Arizona Diamondbacks.The long-standing MLB manager had most recently worked as Chief Baseball Analyst in the front office of the team.
In 2015 and 2016, La Russa, who had won the World Series three times as manager, led the sporting fortunes of the franchise as Chief Baseball Officer, but without much success.This season he played an advisory role.
The 73-year-old now declared to leave the team at his own request:”It’s not like I can’t do anything more,”La Russa says,”but they don’t need me anymore.After a 93 defeat season with GM Mike Hazen and manager Torey Lovulla, the Diamondbacks had unexpectedly reached the playoffs and lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first round.
La Russa, who had been active as a manager from 1979 to 2011 and then worked for the league for two years, but said,”I’m not going to sit around at home.I’ll do something.There have already been a few calls from interested parties.We’ll see.”
