Handball: Kiel wins draw at the front runner Berlin

THW Kiel has taken a step out of the crisis. The team of coach Alfred Gislason won a 25:25 (15:14) at the Füchsen Berlin and set an exclamation mark after the frustrating course of the season. With a score of 17:3 points, the Berliners took over the lead of the titleholder Rhein-Neckar Löwen (16:2) by winning the points.

The guest team of coach Alfred Gislason convinced with a determined appearance, 9000 spectators in the sold-out Max-Schmeling-Arena saw an exciting, at times high-class game. Numerous parades of the strong fox keeper Silvio Heinevetter, who turned 33 on Saturday, didn’t get the team from Kiel out of hand either.

Kiel’s goalkeeper Niklas Landin was in no way inferior to his opponent, and he also held up outstandingly well. THW national goalkeeper Andreas Wolff was sitting on the bench. Niclas Ekberg scored a converted seven-metre lead just a few seconds before the end of the race to secure the score for the Kiel team.

“I’d rather have two points, but it was a great handball game. We have failed to set ourselves apart more clearly, which also prevented Heinevetter from doing so. It’s hard to tell whether this was a won or lost point,”said Gislason at Sky,”I’m happy to see us struggling against failure,”said Kiel’s manager Thorsten Storm.

Steffen Fäth was the best Berlin thrower with seven goals. Besides Landin, Steffen Weinhold and Ekberg (6 each) from Kiel stood out.
