NBA: Hawks lose the game – and Schröder

The Atlanta Hawks (1-2) suffered a 116-104 defeat at Brooklyn Nets (2-1). However, Dennis Schröder’s injury could weigh considerably more heavily than the bankruptcy – the German had a hard time buckling in the final phase and was left behind for a long time.

It wasn’t a good performance by the Hawks. Without much enthusiasm, the guests went into the match and looked like the team, which was much weaker than the talented Nets, but they were not overly talented. In the first quarter Brooklyn wasn’t even there yet, but after that the Nets got better and better and were able to set themselves up to 14 points ahead. This tour also took us to the final quarter.

So the game seemed to be already decided, but Brooklyn lost the thread completely and missed the chance to close the bag. Meanwhile, the Hawks got going and fought once more until Marco Belinelli took the lead all at once by threesome about five minutes before the end. But it didn’t last long – Allen Crabbe brought the Nets back into the lead with two threesomes.

At 106:97, Dennis Schröder then moved to the basket and was unhappy when he stepped on Caris LeVert’s foot. He first lay down and then left the hall with a painful distorted face. He did not return, how long he will be absent is not yet known.

The injury of the Braunschweiger made the final minutes almost a minor matter. D’ Angelo Russell (16 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds) brought the game home. Meanwhile, Crabbe advanced to the top scorer of the game with 20 points, while Belinelli came in as Hawks top scorer to 19. Schröder had played 17 points and 8 assists before his injury, but threw them very badly (5/22 FG). Rookie John Collins with 14 points and 13 rebounds from the bank set a positive exclamation mark at the Hawks.

D’ Angelo Russell. DLo didn’t appear as a scorer this time, but he led a well balanced offense with a steady hand. Russell made hardly any bad decisions and was always able to find his free opponent. He acted like a real Point Guard, which you don’t always see from him. In the final minutes, then with the decisive goals. Also strong by the way: LeVert, Carroll and Booker.

Malcolm Delaney. Schröder’s backup is just not in NBA form at the moment, it seems that he is acting aggressively as if he is acting completely without self-confidence. In 22 minutes he scored 5 points and 4 assists at 1/5 from the field, he could not give structure to the game. But it has to be said that most of the Hawks, including Schröder, Ilyasova and Bazemore, were by no means in top form.

Allen Crabbe had started in the first game after the Jeremy Lin injury, but Kenny Atkinson took LeVert in from the beginning – and that worked well. LeVert was defensive and in terms of intensity, he was an upgrade and complemented Russell quite well, Crabbe in turn scored 7 points in the role of Sixth Man, scoring 7 points in his first two minutes on the court alone. Together with Trevor Booker he led a really good Nets-Bank.
