Ice hockey: Polar bears lead the pack after victory in Cologne

Record champion Eisbären Berlin has won the top game of the DEL at the Cologne Sharks and thus conquered the lead of the standings. On the 16th. On the 11th day of the match, the Berliners took a 4-2 lead over the Rhinelanders (1-1,1-0,2-1) and lead the table with 33 points ahead of champions Red Bull Munich and Nuremberg Ice Tigers (both 32), both of whom played a game less.

Vice-Champion Grizzly’s Wolfsburg stopped the upswing of Iserlohn Roosters, who had won three of the last four games under their new coach Rob Daum. The team from Lower Saxony won 4-1 (0-0,1-0,3-1) and finished sixth in the standings.

The Schwenninger Wild Wings beat Straubing Tigers 4-3 (1-1,0-2,2-0,0-0,0-0,1-0) after penalty shooting. Straubing had been leading 3-1 ten minutes before the end of the game.

Sean Backman (9th), Jamison Macqueen (40th), Daniel Richmond (53rd) and Thomas Oppenheimer (59th) scored goals for Berlin in Cologne. Ryan Jones (16th) and Kai Hospelt (57th) met for the sharks.
