Ski Alpin: RTL Olympic champion drops out with torn cruciate ligament

The Swiss ski racer Carlo Janka has a torn cruciate ligament a few days before the start of the new World Cup season and is likely to miss the Olympic winter.

The giant slalom world champion of 2009 and Olympic champion of 2010 suffered the serious knee injury on Tuesday during training in Switzerland, according to his association.

“The rupture is definitely a setback. We will treat the injury conservatively for the time being,”said the 31-year-old. He did not mention a possible date for a comeback.
