National coach Christian Prokop may have to do without Patrick Wiencek at the start of the European Championship preparation. The round runner from THW Kiel is on the fence because of a dental operation for the international matches against Spain this weekend:”He took part in the first unit, but then had to go to Kiel to undergo surgery,”said Prokop in Berlin.
Wiencek had received an elbow check in the Bundesliga on Saturday at the Füchsen Berlin.
However, according to the DHB, Wiencek is still awaiting a final response from Wiencek. With European champions Jannik Kohlbacher from HSG Wetzlar and Hendrik Pekeler from Rhein-Neckar Löwen, however, Prokop considers itself “very well positioned”in the district.
Before the games on Saturday in Magdeburg and Sunday in Berlin against the runners-up European champion Spain, Prokop once again declared the team’s internal competition.
“If you look at the current nomination, the central positions are important cornerstones that we will certainly see again at the European Championship if nothing surprising happens,”said Prokop.
“At the same time, I also said that I have between 20 and 30 players at my disposal. For example, if you take the external positions, you are not seated there. For those who are not there, the door is still open.”
DHB captain Uwe Gensheimer, who presented the new jersey of the DHB selection on Wednesday, was already looking at the title defence mission.
“There are many teams that have the right to go far. So are we, of course. But of course, we are also facing other conditions than the European Championship in Poland. Now all of us want to take the title away from us,”said Gensheimer.
