Lindsey Vonn makes a surprising comeback in the giant slalom at the World Cup season opener in Sölden. This has been confirmed by Patrick Riml, head of the US Alpine Club, to APA.
The recently 33-year-old US star had recently preferentially competed in speed races and station wagons due to numerous injuries. Vonns last RTL launch was almost two years ago.
On the 30th. However, Vonn’s preparatory training in the technical disciplines, which has been ongoing since the summer, went very well and because there are not many strong competitors at the start of the Tirol season, Vonn has already decided to compete this Saturday in Sölden. She herself had recently announced a “surprise” in social media.
In Sölden, Vonn had started for the last time in 2012. One year earlier, she had won the race on what was probably the most difficult RTL slope for women in winter, surprisingly enough.
“Lindsey continues to have high goals. She wants to win as many races as possible and is aiming for medals in the speed disciplines as well as a giant slalom at the Olympic Games in South Korea,”Riml explained in Sölden on Thursday. Of these, only nine World Cup victories are still missing on the all-time record of Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark (86).
