Alpine Skiing: Vonn not qualified for second round at comeback

34-year-old Manuela Mölgg is leading the first World Cup race of the 2017/18 Alpine Ski Winter at halftime. After the first round of the giant slalom in Sölden, the South Tyrolean has a 0.12-second lead over overall World Cup winner Mikaela Shiffrin from the USA and 0.33 seconds ahead of German Viktoria Rebensburg. The best Austrian is Stephanie Brunner as ninth (+0.94).

Due to strong winds in the uppermost section, the first run took place on a shortened track. Italy’s Sofia Gioggia and Marta Bassino, Slovenian Ana Drev and Swiss last year’s winner Lara Gut, who made a surprising comeback after the rupture of the cruciate ligament in February, were eliminated from the top-15. American Lindsey Vonn was 3.31 behind and missed out on the final. The second round begins at 13.00 (LIVE in the SPOX ticker).
