Joe Girardi took the floor for the first time after his dismissal as manager of the New York Yankees. He was surprised and disappointed at the decision, because he would have liked to continue his engagement at the Big Apple.
In a first interview since the announcement that Girardi’s contract with the Yankees is not being renewed, Girardi was surprised to talk to The Athletic, saying,”It all went really fast,”said Girardi,”Brian[Cashman, General Manager of the Yankees, Note] told me that the organisation chose a different path. I was disappointed because I wanted to finish what we built this year.”
The Yankees were missing only one win in this year’s playoffs, but in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, they were defeated by the Houston Astros. It would have been Girardi’s second World Series with the Yankees in ten years.
“I was really looking forward to the 2018 season. But I also have to be thankful, because how many coaches, be it in the NFL, NBA or NHL, stay in the same place for ten years?” The relationship with Cashman is a good one, the two of them would have been in agreement most of the time.
Girardi wants to lead a baseball team again in the future, but he would also be attracted by his involvement as a TV analyst or at the MLB:”I love this game, its strategy and the passion to get the most out of people.” The 53-year-old had already worked for the YES Network in the 2004,2005 and 2007 seasons.
