NFL: Chaos: Browns screw up trade for McCarron

The Cleveland Browns lost out on Jimmy Garoppolo, but tried to get another quarterback before the trade deadline ended. With the Cincinnati Bengals was a trade for A. J. McCarron is probably already through – Cleveland, however, missed the deadline.

As several media, including Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, have reported, the Browns and the Bengals had agreed on a trade of Cincinnati’s backup quarterback McCarron five minutes before the end of the deadline on Tuesday at 9 p. m. German time.

But because the Brown’s failed to submit their papers in time before the deadline, the trade collapsed. The Bengals had presented all papers to the league, but the signatures of the Browns officials were still missing.

Cleveland is said to have asked for an exception in retrospect, because his own documents were only a few minutes late. However, this was not granted by the League. According to NFL network insider Ian Rapoport, Cincinnati would have received a second and third round kick in the upcoming draft.
