The Seattle Mariners have rejected the contract options of Pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma and Yovani Gallardo. Both become free agents and are allowed to negotiate new contracts with each other team.
Gallardo was 5-10 with a 5.72 ERA over 18 games (22 starts) in the past season, his first in Seattle. Iwakuma, on the other hand, was 0-2 with a 4.35 ERA in only six starts, and for the remainder of the year she was unable to cope with shoulder problems that had led to surgery in September.
Gallardo spent eight years with the Milwaukee Brewers and spent the seasons 2015 and 2016 with the Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles, respectively. In his career he is 113-93 with a 3.93 ERA over eleven seasons.
The Japanese player played for the Mariners for six years and was 63-39 with a 3.42 ERA in 150 games.
In addition to these transactions, the M’s also won a Waiver Claim for all-rounder Andrew Romine, who last played for the Tigers and made headlines by playing all positions in the field in one game at the end of the season.
