Handball: Champions League: THW Kiel with liberation strike in Brest

The crisis-ridden THW Kiel has managed a minor breakthrough in the Champions League. On the sixth matchday of group B preliminary round, the Zebras won 25:24 (12:14) in the Belarusian top team Brest GK Meshkow and are now in fifth place behind the equal points hosts.

The Kiel team, which is only seventh place in the German Bundesliga, also celebrated two consecutive compulsory game victories for the first time since the beginning of September.

Despite a 17-hour drive to Brest after an airport blockade, the people of Kiel were still awake in the witch’s cauldron of the Wiktorija sports complex and led 8:5 after 20 minutes.

Rene Toft Hansen’s block was held at the back by defensive boss Rene Toft Hansen, keeper Niclas Landin showed strong parades, and right-wing outsider Ole Rahmel, who had been sent off for the ill Niclas Ekberg, convinced with three early goals.

Then, however, the weakness of the last few weeks at THW, Steffen Weinhold and Co. Failed again and again because of Brestkeeper Ivan Pesic, Brest had shot the game during the break.

The Kiel team opened the second half with a 4:0 run and did not fall behind afterwards, because Landin continued to hold brillant and the North Germans became more efficient in front.

The best thrower on the Kiel side was Marko Vujin, who was particularly strong after the break with six goals. Siarhei Schilowitsch stood out on the Belarusian side with six goals.
