Ice hockey: Munich and Mannheim fail in CHL round of sixteen

At the fourth edition of the Champions Hockey League (CHL) no German club made it into the quarter-finals. Master Red Bull Munich lost in the round of the last 16 at home by a 2:5 (1:1,1:1,1:0,0:3) at the Swiss Champion SC Bern, the Adler Mannheim dropped out after a 1:2 (1:0,0:0,0:2) defeat at Brynäs IF in Sweden.

After a 3-2 victory in the first leg, Munich had good prospects of becoming the first club to emerge from the DEL in 2014/15 to become one of the top eight in the new competition introduced in 2014/15. But in the second leg, however, three goals conceded the final third.

The eagles, who lost last week in their own hall against the Swedes (2:3), took the lead early in Gävle by Devin Setoguchi (2nd). Brynäs captain Jacob Blomqvist (58th) and Linus Oil and (60th) turned the game late.

Thomas Larkin did an ugly job. The eagle defender checked Daniel Paille in the final seconds in a sneaky way. The former NHL striker couldn’t continue to play.
