MLB: SI Sells 2014 Champion Forecast Issue Again

The American sports magazine Sports Illustrated had predicted in June 2014 with a cover story that the Houston Astros would win the World Series in 2017. Now the magazine sells the magazine again as a limited edition.

“Your 2017 World Champs”, SI headlined on the cover of the 30th issue of the magazine. June 2014 and even had outfielder George Springer on the cover – the latter was voted MVP of the World Series 2017!

Re-publication of a previous issue is very rare in the industry. SI had only re-released the first issue of 1954 in 2001. In addition, further copies were produced in response to great demand, such as the 2009 issue of the NFL quarterback Brett Favre, which became the Sportsman of the Year.

The new version of 2014 is currently being sold on the official SI website for $19.95 and contains all original items from that time, including the original advertising. A mention that this is a new edition will not be made in order not to upset collectors.

In the past few days, originals of the former edition had appeared on eBay and in some cases earned more than 500 dollars.
