Boxing: WBC lifelong ban against Powetkin lifted

The lifelong ban on Alexander Powetkin for doping has been lifted by the WBC. The 38-year-old heavyweight is available from the 6th grade. December.

In December 2016, shortly before his planned title fight against the Canadian Bermane Stiverne, Powetkin was initially suspended for one year and fined 250,000 dollars.

The WBC later extended this ban to a lifetime. Powetkin objected to this in April. In October, he was again included in the rankings by the WBA, IBF and WBO world associations.

Powetkin has only lost one of his 32 professional fights, the WRC-fight on 5. October 2013 in Moscow against the Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko, who has meanwhile been dethroned and resigned from office. 23 of his 31 victories Powetkin won by knockout.
