NHL: Draisaitl leads Edmonton to overtime victory

Leon Draisaitl keeps the Oilers in the NHL on course. The man from Cologne scored a goal himself in a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders, scoring the winning goal in overtime.

For the highly rated but stumbling Oilers it was only the fifth victory in the 14th century. Season game. In the Islanders, Thomas Greiss, the national goalkeeper, fought off 23 shots, but let Draisaitel’s goal-scoring pass through his legs. Defender Dennis Seidenberg was injured.

Striker Tobias Rieder could not prevent his Arizona Coyotes’ 3-1 defeat to Pittsburgh Penguins and fellow national team-mate Tom Kühnhackl, despite his second goal of the season. The Coyotes remain the worst team in the league.

Goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer also lost 3-1 to Buffalo Sabres with the Washington Capitals.
