Walther Tröger, honorary member of the IOC, has spoken out in favour of a complete exclusion of the Russian team from the Olympic Winter Games 2018 in Pyeongchang.
“The International Olympic Committee should exclude Russia from the Winter Games according to the current state of knowledge. The damage done to the Olympic movement at the Winter Games in Sochi is too great,”said Tröger in Berlin.
However, the 88-year-old also referred to Russia’s great influence in the ring order, which the German IOC President Thomas Bach could not avoid:”The problem lies between Putin and Bach, between the IOC and the supporters of Russia,”Tröger said.
Canadian investigator Richard McLaren had certified Russia a government-controlled doping system for the years between 2011 and 2015. The hosts of the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi/Russia are said to have been massively manipulated. Currently, two commissions of the IOC are investigating the incidents of Sochi.
The IOC Executive Committee intends to hold a meeting within the framework of a meeting of the IOC in Berlin from 5 to 6 October. till 7 The Commission has decided to impose an overall penalty for the punishment imposed by the Council at its meeting scheduled for 1 December.
