Boxing: Tyson denies entry to Chile

Former boxing champion Mike Tyson was refused entry to Chile on Thursday. The airport police told the capital Santiago that the 51-year-old’s criminal past was the reason for this. The competent authorities published a photo of Tyson on Twitter accompanied by two officials.

“Our law makes it possible to prohibit the entry of any foreigner who has a negative background and/or has been convicted in his home country,”the authorities said. Tyson will fly back to the USA at the next opportunity.

The former heavyweight boxing world champion was found guilty of rape in 1992 and sentenced to six years in prison, three of which were suspended. The American had travelled to Chile at the invitation of a TV station, where he was to participate in an advertising campaign.
