MLB: Green Bay Packers dismisses Martellus Bennett

The Green Bay Packers part with Tight End Martellus Bennett on the grounds that he had concealed a disease condition. With the move, last year’s Super Bowl winner lands on the Waiver Wire. But the story doesn’t seem to be over yet.

Bennett had signed a $21 million three-year contract before the season. Up to this point, the Packers paid him eight million dollars, but on the basis of the accusation that he had concealed a possible illness, it does not seem impossible that the Packers will try to recover the salary paid.

After Bennett won the Super Bowl last year with the New England Patriots, he joined the Packers. A few weeks ago, he then announced his ambition to end his career early after this season. On Instagram, Bennett wrote:”After talking to my family, I’m pretty sure that the next eight games will be the conclusion of my NFL career.

Bennett has been playing in the NFL since 2008 and has worked for the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Patriots and Packers, bringing it to 4520 yards and 30 touchdowns.

This season, however, he has been struggling with a shoulder injury for a few weeks now and has not played since Week 7. Until then, he only played 24 catches and 233 yards for Green Bay.

Whether he wants to play again this season is not yet clear. If so, he would have to go through the Waiver Wire first. If he is not requested by another team there, he would be a Free Agent and could negotiate with any team in the league. But he wouldn’t be expensive for another team, his basic salary is only 423,529 dollars by the end of the year, which is the league minimum for veterans.
