NFL: Media: Jerry Jones threatens NFL with lawsuit

The NFL may be facing a major lawsuit as media reports say that Dallas cowboy owner Jerry Jones is threatening to sue the League if the Competition Committee confirms the upcoming renewal of the contract with Commissioner Roger Goodell. Jones had already hired a star lawyer for this purpose.

On Wednesday, the New York Times reported that Jones had hired lawyer David Boies to investigate legal action against Goodell’s renewal.

Boies represented the then inferior democratic candidate and vice-president under Bill Clinton, Al Gore, after the US presidential elections. He also negotiated the final CBA for the NFL and also represented Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein in connection with the numerous allegations of sexual assault against him.

According to ESPN’s Outside The Lines, Boies is also a representative of DraftKings, the daily fantasy game in which Jones was one of the first to invest.

It is unclear with what justification Jones is now so aggressively taking action against Goodell’s continued employment beyond 2018. OTL speculates, however, that Jones is trying to increase the number of votes in Goodell’s commissioner’s office from two-thirds to three-quarters of NFL owners. Boies is also asked to produce a report showing the negative economic impact of Goodell’s decisions, including in terms of player penalties, on the NFL teams.

Goodell has been critical of Goodell ever since this cowboy-running back Zeke Elliott was banned from six games due to domestic violence. The legitimacy of this ban is currently being clarified by an appeal court.
