The German champion Brose Bamberg has taken a significant damper in the EuroLeague. After three consecutive victories on the international stage, coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost in their own arena against EuroLeague champion Fenerbahce Istanbul with 57:80 (33:43).
The Turks, who had previously been level on points, thus passed the Bundesliga team to a play-off place, Bamberg missed the jump into the top eight.
After just a few minutes, the guests took control and dominated the game. Bamberg tried hard, but the eleven-time Turkish champion didn’t let much go and kept the hosts away with 23 points at times. In the last quarter, the Upper Franconians finally lost the thread.
With 15 points, Istanbul’s Jan Vesely was the best thrower of the match, while American player Augustine Rubit scored the most points, scoring twelve.
The defeat was a setback for the nine-time champions, who had won a surprising 75:69 at Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade last week. Bamberg had also fought back to a play-off place in the Bundesliga with two clear victories against Löwen Braunschweig (94:68) and BG Göttingen (100:61).
