Golf: Martin Kaymer greatly improved in Sun City

Germany’s top golfer Martin Kaymer has improved considerably on the second round of the European Tour Tournament in Sun City, South Africa, targeting his second top 10 result of the season.

The former world number one from Mettmann only needed 69 strokes on Friday at the Par-72-Platz despite strong winds and climbed with 142 strokes (three under par) from 39th to eightth place.

The Frenchman Victor Dubuisson was at the top of the leaderboard with 138 strokes. This was followed by second place with the former number one Lee Westwood from England and the South African Darren Fichardt (both 140). The lap had to be interrupted for several hours because of a thunderstorm.

Kaymer is the only German competitor in Sun City with a prize money of 7.5 million dollars. His best place so far this season is a fourth place in Abu Dhabi in January.
