Basketball: Trump fights for arrested college basketball player

Donald Trump has stood up for three arrested college basketball players from the USA with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. The White House has confirmed this to the Washington Post.

LiAngelo Ball, younger brother of L. A. -Lakers player Lonzo Ball, as well as Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were arrested for shoplifting at the beginning of last week in Hangzhou. They’re said to have stolen all three sunglasses.

The UCLA team from Los Angeles had played the season opener against Georgia Tech University in the nearby business metropolis of Shanghai. Shoplifting in China is punishable by imprisonment of possibly several years. The rest of the UCLA team returned to the USA last Saturday.

Trump met with Xi Jinping last Saturday on his trip to Asia in Beijing. As the White House explained, Trump raised the case. As ESPN claims, Xi is said to have promised that the players would be treated fairly. The case would also be dealt with quickly.
