NFL: Next milestone for Bill Belichick

The New England Patriots’ 41-16 win at the Denver Broncos in Week 10’s Sunday Night Game was not only the Patriots’ seventh win this season, it was also a milestone for Head Coach Bill Belichick. It was his 270th. Victory in the NFL, equaling him with a Hall-of-Famer.

With this milestone, Belichick is now in third place on the all-time list, alongside Dallas cowboy legend Tom Landry. Only Don Shula (347 victories) and George Halas (324) are still ahead of Belichick. Both regular-season and play-off games are counted in this respect.

And Belichick didn’t waste any time playing down the story:”It’s flattering, but I don’t think the story is tonight,” and said,”The story is what our team did and how it played.”

In general, the five-time Super Bowl champion preferred to praise his players:”To win games in this league, you need great players. I was lucky to have a lot of great players, coaches and team leaders. That’s what this is all about. The players are the ones who deserve the credit. They’re the ones who go out on the field and do the lay-ups. And they did it again today.”

For a Patriot player, it was a very special evening in Denver: Tight End Dwayne Allen, who caught his first pass for New England – it was a touchdown. Before the season, Allen was traded to Foxborough by the Indianapolis Colts and had this to say about his new coach:”When it comes to Xs and Os, motivating people and enriching them with history, nobody makes it better. From a distance I envied the guys in this team because I knew they would experience the best coaching. Well, now that I’m here, that’s true. If you watch him doing the work, it’s no surprise that he has had the success he’s had up to here and he’ll continue to have.”
