The German basketball series champion Brose Bamberg has made the connection to the play-off places in the EuroLeague with an impressive performance. After a long chase, coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated Spain’s top team FC Barcelona Lassa 84:81 (37:49).
Bamberger thus improved to ninth place in the league of 16 teams and could advance to one of the eight play-off places with another victory on Friday at Armani Milan.
“It’s good to go into the next few games against Milan and Munich with such a highly competitive victory,”said Maodo Lo, an international player at Telekom Sport. Bamberg will be visiting the Italian capital in less than 48 hours, and on Sunday the Bundesliga will see a duel with Bayern Munich.
Due to insufficient capacity in the Brose-Arena (maximum of 6249 spectators), the Bambergers played again in Nuremberg, where the hosts could not find any trace in front of 8000 spectators in the first quarter (12:38). The Upper Franconians, however, made up the gap of 26 points and took the lead for the first time four minutes before the end of the game.
The Bamberg team was led by former NBA pro Dorrell Wright, who contributed 16 points to the victory. Rakim Sanders convinced the Barcelona side, which won the weekend at the Clasico in Real Madrid, with 17 points.
