The British cycling legend Bradley Wiggins has no fear of consequences due to a possible doping violation. The UKAD, the UK’s anti-doping agency, announced on Wednesday that it has closed its investigations against the five-time Olympic champion and his former team Sky without results.
The investigation started in September 2016 focused on the delivery of medicines from 2011 to the then Sky Captain Wiggins. The 2012 Tour winner, who has since resigned, had received the public programme almost six years ago on the last day of the Critérium du Dauphiné.
It is said to have contained the glucocorticoid triamcinolone, which was banned in some competitions, but according to Sky it contained only the cough solvent Fluimucil, which was allowed in the competition “The UKAD was not able to confirm the contents of the package definitively. This will probably no longer be possible,”the doping authorities said.
One reason for this was the “lack of medical records”, which is why the UKAD reminded all physicians working in sports to “ensure the guidelines of the medical record”. UKAD interviewed 37 participants (drivers, physicians, coaches) of the British Cycling Federation and the Sky team.
