Brett Gardner has been awarded the Heart & Hustle Award. The New York Yankees outfielder was awarded the prize on Tuesday during the 18th anniversary of the New York Yankees. annual Legends for Youth Dinner of the MLB Players Alumni Association in Manhattan.
“I was taught to play the game with a lot of passion. And to be recognized in this way, by the vote of the other players, means a lot to me,”Gardner explained in his thank-you speech,”I have to thank a lot of people. My dad taught me how to play the game right from an early age. My wife Jessica pushes me every day to be better and more active in society on and off the pitch to give back. I am grateful that I have a lot of good friends and a family who have accompanied me all the way.”
Gardner beat last season. 264 with 21 home runs and 63 RBi and still has a contract in New York until the end of 2018.
Addressing the Yankees, the left fielder of the team said:”Overall, we have a pretty good team. We got some young people coming out big. Aaron Judge has won the Rookie of the Year and is in the MVP discussion. Luis Severino was one of the top men for the Cy Young. We have many bright young talents, and next year will be exciting.”
At the end of the season, Gardner was allowed to work as a manager for a half-inning, but according to his own information, he himself is not available as a new manager for the Yankees:”Coaching my children is the highest of my feelings.”
