Less than 48 hours after the magnificent race to catch up with FC Barcelona, German series champion Brose Bamberg has taken a damper in the Euroleague.
Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost to the Italian record holder Olimpia Milano 62:71 (35:27). Thus Bamberg (9th) missed the jump to one of the eight play-off places in the 16-team league and was unable to build up self-confidence for the Bundesliga top flight: Bamberg will be visiting Bayern Munich on Sunday.
The Bambergers won the first two quarters (16:13,19:14) in front of 7700 spectators in the Lombardy metropolis. After the break, the Milanese came out of the cabin with an 11:4 run and caught up.
Although the Upper Franconians were convincing with an excellent threesome of just under 50 percent, they scored only eleven points in the final quarter. Four minutes before the match ended, Milan took the lead and refused to give up.
The Bamberg team was again led by former NBA professional Dorrell Wright, who contributed twelve points. On the side of Milan, which won on Wednesday in Valencia only after two extra times, Center Kaleb Tarczewski also won with twelve points.
