The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang/South Korea will take place without the women’s relay of the German short-trackers.
The quartet led by Anna Seidel and Bianca Walter (both from Dresden) dropped out of the season’s fourth World Cup in Seoul on Friday in the preliminaries and therefore has no chance of winning one of the eight Olympic tickets.
The relay team of the German Speed Skating Association (DESG) is too poorly placed in the decisive overall World Cup standings.
“The girls are certainly disappointed. But it is also important to acknowledge that the other teams in front of us are right to do so,”said Matthias Kulik:” They can still be proud of their performance.
Anna Seidel and Bianca Walter have so far met the national Olympic standard on the individual routes. The ISU, the world association, will decide on the allocation of quota places only at the beginning of December after a complicated calculation procedure has been completed. DESG is hoping for two quota places on the individual routes.
