Olympia 2018: Ski Jumping Director Hüttel for the exclusion of Russia from the Olympic Games

Horst Hüttel, Sports Director of Ski Jumpers and Combineers in the German Ski Association (DSV), has spoken out in favour of the exclusion of Russia from the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, saying to Deutschlandfunk:”It is the only consistent decision that has to be made,”Hüttel told Deutschlandfunk.

He hopes for a clear sign in the spirit of sport, Hüttel continues. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make its decision on a possible expulsion of Russia from the Winter Games in Pyeongchang on 5 May. December in Lausanne.

The IOC’s decision is based on the results of two IOC commissions investigating the doping allegations against Russia. The Canadian investigator Richard McLaren had found that between 2011 and 2015, around 1000 Russian athletes benefited from the doping system in the giant empire, including the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. In the run-up to last year’s Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, the IOC decided against a total exclusion.
