NFL: Cardinals dismiss Andre Ellington

The Arizona Cardinals came as a surprise at the end of Week 11: Arizona fired Running Back Andre Ellington on late Monday evening.

Ellington had already missed the match against Houston on Sunday at a surprisingly short notice. His squad seat goes to Bronson Hill, the Cardinals got the Running Back from the Practice Squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In the current season, despite David Johnson’s injury, Ellington did not have a single start in the Cardinal’s backfield, which is dominated by Kerwynn Williams and Adrian Peterson. A total of 15 runs for 53 yards will be on the 28-year-old’s account in 2017. The 28-year-old played a bigger role in the passing game (33 REC, 297 YDS).

As a six-round draft pick in 2013, Ellington snatched the grid position in Arizona in the 2014 season, but time and again he was hampered by injuries. Before the season he had only received a new contract for one year after the end of his rookie contract, but as a role player Ellington was to find a place elsewhere.
