Skeleton: Fernstädt receives Griebel’s World Cup starting place

Skeleton athlete Sophia Griebel has lost her place in the German World Cup team to the young Anna Fernstädt for the time being for performance reasons. This was announced by the German Bobsleigh and Sled Federation (BSD) in the run-up to the third season stage in Whistler, Canada, which will be held on Friday and Saturday.

“Anna will start as the third woman this coming weekend,” said national coach Jens Müller:”Fernstädt (20) made her world cup debut last winter after the World Cup in Whistler, and Griebel (27) won the national competition before the start of the season.

The race for places at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang (9. till 25. February) gives special significance to the World Cup this year. Germany’s top skeleton starters are world champion Jacqueline Lölling (Winterberg) and vice world champion Tina Hermann (Königssee).
